Delinquent

Wow...I hadn't realized how lazy I've been when it comes to posting on my blog here. My apologies. Well, it is the day after All Hallowed Eve and we had a good evening. My wife goes nuts with this little holiday and our house was all done up. Looked good. I ate to much of the after-affects (candy) and now I've got a sugar hangover and feel basically like shit. So, such is life in the big boy world.
When it comes to weather, we had some abnormally cold days over the last week. Thursday night/Friday morning, my handy dandy thermometer registered 31.5F (just below freezing for you fahrenheit deficient folks) so for Hampton Roads, it was chilly. It was nice getting up early and hearing the frost crunch under foot while I walked to the car. I tell you...I miss cold weather. So, so very much.
Alright...I'll try not to be so horrible in my writing. Take care.

Wow...alot of Rain...

Well, the Noreaster and low pressure associated with it dumped ALOT of rain. Norfolk international only recorded approximately 2.57 inches (which is a Record for this date), but as precipitation amounts can vary quite alot due to thunderstorm cells etc, we had quite alot more precip at my house. According to my little plastic rain gauge, we received approximately 6.5 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. To top it off, the pump station stopped working and the retention pond behind my house filled up ...probably close to 10 feet of extra water. Luckily my wife noticed the red light on and I called the number, and the got it working. I was worried that it would flood my poor house.
AND...we've had a leak on one of the walls, and supposedly it had been fixed...riiight. After approximately4 inches of rain, the water start flowing in through the same spot. So my wife and I spent quite a bit of time putting down towels and bowls to catch the water. What a pain in the ass.

That being said...6.5 inches of rain. WOW.

Wow...alot of rain

Well, that coastal low that is located over North/South Carolina is currently dumping some heavy rain/thunderstorms, and some different wind. My back yard had 2.68 inches of rain in less than 12 hours and the rain keeps on coming. Pretty sweet if you ask me!! And the nice kick-ass thunderstorms are just beginning!! It's nice!!

Hanna is here

Oh yeah...well, I first woke up around 0600L and heard the wind start blowing...the creaking of the house, etc. All good and interesting fun. The winds and driving rain remind me of Iceland. At any rate, at my house I've had just over 1/2 inch of rain in 2 hours...the temperature is about 80F and the winds have been southerly 5-10 knots with gusts to 20 knots....all I have is a Kestrel observation so it isn't measuring winds for a full hour...just when I go outside.

The official Observation at the local airport is (winds are showing

Rainfall

Well, so far I have received 1.10 inches of rain at my house. The skies are partly cloudy and there is no wind, but the humidity is brutal. It is warm and all the windows are dripping with water. Oh, and the rain has stopped. But I'm sure it will begin soon enough. Joy!!

It's begun...

Well, the rain began approximately at 1345L or 1745Z. I'll be trying to report the weather as able...I'll take a 2100Z Observation with the total rain amount, temperature etc. My barometer, which is on my watch and not remarkably accurate is telling me the pressure is dropping and currently is 1015. Should be an interesting next two days.

The day before Hannah

Well, yesterday I went out and bought extra water (bottled) and have been clearing out my garage to make room for one of my cars. But it appears it will be a wind and rain maker and we are definitely in need to the rain. That being said, I'm glad that there are no trees near my house in case the wind comes a blowing. Otherwise, it will probably be a sit-inside-and-watch- movies all day as the Satellite dish probably won't get any reception. This will be like a winter storm day when I was stationed in Iceland. Windy, windy and windy. The current Surface weather observations:

Hurricane Hannah

Been watching the local weather stations and they are all interviewing folks that live on Kill Devil Hills. Many of them are not planning on evacuating. Amazing how stupid people are. Of course, the media has a ton of overkill, especially with all the idiots that stand on the beach and are pummelled by the hurricane winds and rain. Is anyone else sick of it? Well, here is the link to check out the latest updated track of Hannah and anyother hurricane:

Climate change (Global Warming specfically) is a farce

Alright...did I get your attention? Good. Now, onto business...my intention is not to make this blog a political statement as I know my limitations. I will only say that from what I have read, there is to much information that is showing that the current climate change is just part of the normal cycle of the earth...plus our inability to collect good, quality data that supports the concept of climate change. I have a few links on the side that raise questions about the accuracy of global warming data...especially when it comes to the United States national weather stations and where they place their observation equipment.

That being said...

Today is 3 September 2008. We haven't received much rain. I was on vacation last week (left on Thursday and returned on Sunday), but upon my return, my little plastic rain gauge showed that I had .60 inches of rain. I do know that that rain occurred on Thursday and possibly Friday, so there was probably a little bit of evaporation that took place. Where I live (Hampton Roads, Va) we are in a rain deficit...I think the official amount is close to 7 inches. Now hopefully, Hannah will bring some rain up here and not cause much devastation, but we definitely need the rain.

Right now, the current temperature at my house (again, with a plastic thermometer) is 90F.
